The CryoPen is a quick and virtually pain-free way of removing skin lesions, including skin tags, milia, age spots, sun spots, cherry angiomas, seb ks, xanthelasma, warts and verrucas. With precise freezing, each lesion is treated from 5-30 seconds.
The CryoPen emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure, which allows millimetre precision for freezing. This destroys the tissue by freezing the intra-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. There is no collateral damage to healthy tissue.
Frequently asked questions
Which lesions can be treated?
Dr Tallent is happy to assess lesions to see if they are suitable for cryotherapy, and advise on pricing.
Are there any side effects?
Cryotherapy is relatively low risk, but there can be a few side effects that may occur as a result of cryotherapy treatment:
Pigmentary changes (hypo or hyperpigmentation) if this happens skin colour normally returns after a few months.
Nerve damage - normal sensitivity returns after a few months.
Hair follicle damage and alopecia (on treatment sites with coarse terminal hair).
Is the treatment painful?
There will be a pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle, which may last a few minutes. The area will be slightly itchy for 10 minutes. Occassionally a blister might form and persist for a few hours.
What happens after treatment?
After the initial redness for about 10 minutes, the lesion will the become darker. With time a scab will form, which should not be picked. This will drop off and new skin will be revealed (this will be slightly paler on tanned skin). Skin tags will turn black and drop off. The process may take up to 4-6 weeks. Larger and more raised lesions sometimes require further treatments at 4-6 weekly intervals.
From £25-50 per lesion, and £10-20 per top up
Price is on assessment, as different sized lesions are charged at varying amounts. Some lesions may require a second treatment after 4-6 weeks and this will incur a further charge. In general warts, verrucas and lesions 4mm and bigger will cost £50 as they require extra freezing.
