Excessive Sweating

Many people have severe underarm sweating, which involves overactive sweat glands that significantly exceed the body’s normal requirements for cooling.

Botox treatment in the armpits helps to control the symptoms of severe underarm sweating when topical treatments do not work well enough. It temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Botox injections temporarily stop the production of excessive sweat in the treated areas only. Sweat continues to be produced as normal elsewhere. The treatment can also be used on the hands.

Where does the sweat go?

Your sweat doesn’t go anywhere or get backed up because the sweat simply is not produced in the areas treated with Botox. This was excess sweat which your body didn’t need to produce. If your temperature rises, the rest of your body is free to produce sweat normally. There may be a small amount of underarm sweat still produced. The treatment lasts 6 to 9 months.
